I am seeking a self-motivating and enthusiastic Ph.D. candidate to conduct research in remote sensing or data mining /machine learning. The position combines measurements from various sources, particularly UAV, field, and satellite, and aims at advancement of modeling vegetation.

The student will have the flexibility to select their own research topic, but it has to be related to one of the following:

  1. development of real -time algorithms for 3D rendering of reality
  2. extraction of relevant information from 2D or 3D data or
  3. synergistic utilization of multi-sensor and multi-scale data.

Applicants should have an MS with strong focus on numerical applications (such as biometrics, computer sciences, mathematics, engineering) . High level programming proficiency (e.g., Python, Matlab, or R)  and familiarity with deep learning and data-mining techniques are necessary.

The successful candidate will pursue a Ph.D. in Sustainable Forest Management. Oregon State University offers the posibility of dual majors PhD, in there is interest in this directions. Dr. Strimbu has active colaborations with the Colllege of Earth, Oceanic, and Atmospheric Sciences as well as with the Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences Department, which could provide avenues for dual major PhD.
